# Installation

`cane-format` needs Python 3.10 or newer and has no dependencies.

``` bash
pip install cane-format
```

With [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/):

``` bash
uv add cane-format
```

Import it under its short name:

``` python
import cane_format as cane
```

The command line tool `cane-format` is installed with the package:

cane-format --help
```

>
> `cane-format` follows [Semantic Versioning](https://semver.org/). While the version starts with `0.`, the API may still change between minor releases; every change is listed in the [changelog](https://github.com/coree/cane-format/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md).
